Maxson & Associates provides complete fire door testing for all your sliding and rolling fire doors; annual testing to meet NFPA 80 standards is available.

An important component of new construction, as well as renovation and retrofit of existing buildings, is the installation of fire doors, to meet the existing building code requirements of municipalities. For over half a century, Maxson & Associates has been specializing in the sales, installation and service of fire doors for a broad range of industries and applications. Maxson & Associates is fully insured and bondable, with all fire door installations performed by factory trained and certified technicians. Along with planned maintenance agreements for preventative maintenance and regular service, 24-hour emergency service on fire doors is also available.

Maxson & Associates carries a complete line of fire doors from the following manufacturers:

  • Cookson
  • Teledor (security doors with optional fire ratings)
  • Clopay (dock seals and dock shelters with fire retardant construction)

There are three primary purposes for a fire door system – first, to make a building or structure safe to occupy; second, to protect the building and its contents by limiting damage if there is a fire; third, to close an opening in a fire wall, thereby preventing a fire from spreading.

Factors that should be considered when choosing a fire door or fire door system:

  • Testing Requirements – according to building codes (NFPA 80), fire door systems are to be tested at least once a year (more often in some municipalities and applications)
  • Pedestrian Traffic – the number of staff members, workers, and visitors who will use the opening, as well as be around or near it (located in offices, cubicles, factory areas, etc.)
  • Power Failures – a power failure can result in some fire doors automatically closing, even without an actuation of the Fire Alarm System
  • Accessibility – the fire door is easily and completely accessible, with the fire door either completely or partially constructed into the building ceilings or walls

Fire doors can be actuated – in other words, the fire doors will close in the case of fire – by means of either a combination of building alarm systems and smoke detectors, or a series of heat detectors (utilizing thermal fusible links). Maxson & Associates recommends (as does Cookson), that fire doors should be automatically closed (actuated) via building alarm systems or smoke detectors, rather than by heat detectors (closing by fusible link).

Industries and applications where fire doors are used include:

  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Transportation – Warehouses, Distribution Centers
  • Recreational, Entertainment – Sports Arenas, Ballparks, Stadiums
  • Business – Conference Centers, Office Buildings
  • Any Commercial, Industrial, or Retail Building that must meet fire codes (including, but not limited to, NFPA 80)

Maxson & Associates installs the complete line of Cookson fire doors and fire door systems, from manually reset automatic fire doors (Simple-Test™ Manual Fire Doors) to automatically reset fire door systems (Auto-Test™ Fire Door Systems), which reset automatically after the fire doors have been actuated or tested. Maxson & Associates can handle all your fire door needs, from new construction to renovation and retrofit, as well as fire door testing, preventative maintenance and service – contact us today with all your fire door requirements!
